Our Town

Built on the early Queensland coal mining industry, Collinsville is a small town filled with character and history. Beginning life as a tent and bag humpy settlement, the town quickly grew to accommodate the miners’ families and associated businesses to support the efforts of the workers. Many of Collinsville’s historic buildings still stand today, highlighting the important role of meeting places such as cafes, hotels and the cinema. Many of the stories from both the mine and the community are captured in the news reports available to view below.
